On Friday 15th March 2013 , members of the local Conservative Association held their annual meeting , under the chairmanship of president Dudley Fishburn, who asked them to ratify Richard Benyon's reselection to stand at the next general election.
Now in his second term in the Newbury post, he was elected in 2005, after defeating the standing Liberal Democrat MP, David Rendel.
In May 2010, he was appointed Minister for Natural Environment and Fisheries.
After the meeting, association chairman Sir Nigel Burney said: "I am delighted that Richard has agreed to stand again for Newbury. He is an exemplary constituency MP and we are fortunate to be represented by him."
