This morning, Richard presented students at Winchcombe School with the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award.
Over the past 18 months, staff and students have used various events to raise awareness of UNICEF and the Rights of the Child. UNICEF representatives were so impressed with the schools efforts, that they were graded as ‘outstanding’ at Level 1, the highest accolade.
After presenting the award, Richard said, “I am so impressed at how far this school has come since my last visit. To be the first school in West Berkshire to become a rights respecting school is a fantastic achievement and all those involved should be really proud.”
He continued, “I have travelled to places in the world where children are literally dying for an education. Through learning about the many challenges that their fellow children face globally, the children will no doubt hold a greater appreciation for their education and the world around them.”
