Richard Benyon has welcomed today’s announcement that West Rail Access to Heathrow will connect the airport to the Great Western Mainline.
This future rail link, will allow passengers to travel from Reading, via Slough, to Heathrow airport via a direct train service. Currently passengers wishing to access Heathrow have to travel into London Paddington before changing. The new line will slash journey times to Heathrow from the Thames Valley, with journey times from Reading now estimated to take just 28 minutes.
Richard said, “Newbury is home to many international companies; businesses that trade abroad. Many of them, such as Vodafone and Bayer, have been calling for a long time for better Heathrow links. As a result of this announcement there will be one million fewer car journeys on some of the country’s most congested roads.”
