- Getting Brexit done by leaving the EU on 31 January 2020, fulfilling our promise to the British people. Our new deal with the EU that came into effect on 1 January 2021 takes back control of our laws, borders, money, trade and fisheries – and it ends any role for the European Court. We have now regained our political and economic independence – and will thrive as a country fully outside the European Union.
- Delivering the biggest cash boost in history for the NHS and enshrining that increase in law, to safeguard it for future generations. We are investing an additional £33.9 billion in frontline NHS services every year by 2023-24, the largest and longest funding settlement in the history of the NHS. We are also starting work on 40 new hospitals and upgrading 20 more, ensuring extra funding goes straight to the front line. And we’ve got over 13,300 more nurses and 6,030 more doctors working in our NHS over the last year.
- Giving the police the resources it needs by recruiting 20,000 additional police officers, helping to build back safer after the pandemic. We are delivering a £636 million boost in police funding next year , including £400 million to continue recruiting 20,000 extra police officers by 2023, of which we have already delivered the first 6,000 of. . We have also ended the automatic release of offenders who pose a terrorist threat, alongside serious violent and sexual offenders, ensuring they get the prison time they deserve.
- Boosting funding in our primary and secondary schools by £14 billion over the next three years, so that every child can get a good education. We are increasing the schools budget by £2.6 billion in 2020-21, £4.8 billion in 2021-22 and £7.1 billion in 2022-23, compared to 2019-20. This will bring the schools budget up to a record £52.2 billion. We will also transform schools in every region of the country, starting with a £1.8 billion investment, the first part of our ambitious 10-year plan to invest in rebuilding schools across England.
- Launching a Lifetime Skills Guarantee so that people can get the skills they need at every stage of their life – meaning they can retrain and find new, well-paid jobs to Build Back Better. Our Lifetime Skills Guarantee will provide adults in England without an A-Level or equivalent qualifications from April the opportunity to take up a free, fully funded college course. We are also making higher education loans more flexible, so people can space out their study across their lifetime and take more high-quality vocational courses.
- Launching a new Levelling Up Fund – worth £4 billion in England, and £800 million in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – to deliver on the people’s priorities. This fund will invest in local infrastructure and support economic recovery – driving prosperity and taking the unique circumstances of each local area into account.
- Investing record amounts – triple the average over the last 40 years – to build the railways and roads of the future. £640 billion of capital investment will be invested in roads, railways, communications, schools, hospitals and power networks. Over the Parliament, public sector net investment will be triple the average public sector net investment over the last 40 years. We are also investing £5 billion to deliver gigabit broadband across the country, so that no community is left behind.
- Delivering one of the most comprehensive economic responses in the world to support jobs, businesses and public services during the coronavirus pandemic. We have provided over £280 billion in support for jobs, businesses and public services since the start of the pandemic – including protecting 12 million jobs through the furlough and self-employed schemes.
- Setting out a 10-point plan to unleash a green industrial revolution, creating 250,000 green jobs to deliver our Net Zero ambitions. The Prime Minister’s 10-point plan will mobilise £12 billion of investment and provide the private sector with the certainty it needs to invest in the new technologies we need to reduce our contribution to climate change to Zero. The plan will support the creation of 250,000 new green jobs and reduce emissions by the same amount as not having any cars on the roads for two years.
- Delivering a funding boost of over £24 billion for our nation’s defence – ensuring we keep our nation safe from the evolving international threats we face. This commitment is the largest investment in our nation’s defence since the end of the Cold War, giving our defence budget an extra £24.1 billion over the next four years. This will help create 10,000 more jobs annually, across the whole of the UK - harnessing the UK’s skills in construction and science and reinvigorating those industries in the coming decades.
