Council Leader welcomes more Household Support Funding to help those most in need.
- Cllr Lynne Doherty welcomes news that vulnerable residents in West Berkshire will benefit from £1,389,699 additional funding through the Conservative Government’s Household Support Fund, bringing the total amount received by this specific fund to £3,474,248
- The Conservative Government has extended their unprecedented support targeted at the most vulnerable into 2023-24 through £900 means-tested Cost of Living Payments, the Energy Price Guarantee and the £2.5 billion Household Support Fund.
- The Council is committed to doing everything it can to support the most vulnerable families across West Berkshire in an economically sustainable way, protecting those most in need.
Cllr Lynne Doherty has welcomed the news that West Berkshire Council will receive a further £1,389,699 in this latest round of funding to help families that need support in the face of rising cost of living.
This funding takes the total level of support provided to West Berkshire residents through this grant to £3,474,248, demonstrating the unwavering commitment to support the most vulnerable in times of financial hardship from the Conservative Government.
The Household Support Fund is a discretionary fund provided to local authorities enabling them to provide support to vulnerable families struggling to cover essential costs who may not be eligible for other Government support schemes.
West Berkshire Council opened their Cost of Living Support Hub last year and this can still be accessed by residents in need online at westberks.gov.uk/cost-of-living-support-hub, by email to costofliving@westberks.gov.uk or by calling 01635 503333
The Council was one of the first in the country to get a support system up and running, the hub provides signposting for a range of matters including Financial Support, Food Costs, Help for Families, Money Saving Advice, Health and Wellbeing, Access to Warm Spaces, and advice for those who want to help others by volunteering or donating.

Cost of living increases mean that more people are being affected than previously. Our Cost of Living Hub was set up to help to advise and signpost people, especially those who don't know who to turn to, to those organisations and funds that can help them through this most difficult time.
That is why I am delighted that HM Government have allocated a further £1,389,699 to West Berkshire through the Household Support Fund, this means we are able to continue to look at the best ways in which we can help our residents with rising costs.
