Following a meeting with the Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, to discuss the electrification of the Great Western Main Line beyond Newbury to Hungerford and Bedwyn, both Newbury MP, Richard Benyon, and Devizes MP, Claire Perry, were encouraged that the Secretary of State would consider their argument going forward.
Richard said: “Whilst I accept that much has been done by this Government to overhaul our rail network, it makes complete sense to continue the electrification process beyond Newbury Station. I am pleased that the Secretary of State accepts the recent review which highlighted a positive return on investment and I will continue to work with Claire and others to ensure constituents beyond Newbury are included in the new electrification project.”
